tell

● (to say to )= いう ・ 言う
did you tell your parents? = ごりょうしんに いいましたか。 ・ ご両親に 言いましたか。
to tell someone about a problem = だれかに もんだいを うちあける ・ 誰かに 問題を 打ち明ける
to tell jokes = じょうだんを いう ・ 冗談を 言う

● (when giving information)= おしえる ・ 教える
to tell someone your address = だれかに じゅうしょを おしえる ・ 誰かに 住所を 教える
to tell someone the way = だれかに みちを おしえる ・ 誰かに 道を 教える

● (to work out, to know )
I can tell (that) she's disappointed = かのじょは がっかりした ようです。 ・ 彼女は がっかりした ようです。
you can tell he's lying = かれは うそを ついているのが わかるでしょう。 ・ 彼は 嘘を ついているのが 分かるでしょう。

● (when making distinctions )
to tell the twins apart = ふたごを みわける ・ 双子を 見分ける
I can't tell which is which = みわけが つきません。 ・ 見分けが つきません。

● (to reveal )= いう ・ 言う
please don't tell anyone = だれにも いわないでください。 ・ 誰にも 言わないでください。
