Note that an English-Japanese dictionary is called a えいわじてん and a Japanese-English dictionary is called a わえいじてん. As Chinese characters are used in Japanese, separate dictionaries for looking these up are necessary. A dictionary which translates Chinese characters into English is called a かんえいじてん
