NOTE ‘बहुत अधिक नहीं’ के अर्थ में fairly, quite, rather और pretty इन सबका प्रयोग हो सकता है। इनमें fairly सबसे दुर्बल है और rather एवं pretty सबसे सबल हैं। Fairly और quite अधिकतर सकारात्मक अर्थ देने वाले शब्दों के साथ प्रयुक्त होते हैं
—The room was fairly tidy.
कटु आलोचना या नकारात्मक व्यंजना के लिए rather का प्रयोग होता है —This room’s rather untidy.
परंतु सकारात्मक अर्थ वाले शब्द के साथ rather के प्रयोग का तात्पर्य है आश्चर्य और हर्ष की अभिव्यक्ति —The new teacher is actually rather nice, though he doesn’t look very friendly.
